A simple blog for people wanting to know the simple stuff about VoIP, Voice over Internet, Voice over IP and so on.

I’ve been using the service for over a year now and can happily say that it has been great to me, has saved me tons of money, I can call anyone in North America at anytime - all for one low monthly rate. I won’t specify which one it is right now, but can say that there are a few out there offering some great deals on VoIP service and the features that are included in most packages.

What really got me when I first started out was the simple fact of making phone calls over the Internet. Local or long distance. As with anything new, I was a bit reluctant and hesitant on try it out, but then again who isn’t?

Also …

I could not believe was how many features I got with the service: voicemail, voicemail to email, caller ID, call forwarding and even 3-way calling. WOW! With my crazy cell phone plan, I pay extra for these features, but not with VoIP.

I’ve heard stories where people ported over their home phone numbers completely to be disappointed with what VoIP can and cannot do, and in some cases I would definitely agree in not trying that route to start off with. Try the service, from which ever VoIP service provider you chose from, give it a couple of weeks, then decide if you want to port your number over. In my case, I kept my home phone number and have a seperate number for the internet phone service.

Anyways, more to follow. The purpose of this site and blog is to hopefully try to explain in simple layman & technical terms what VoIP is, what can be done and what the future may hold for this great new telecommunication marvel.
